- Side view of bracework and portion of overhang - Bamboo gourd and vine trellis, made from Phyllostachys aurea, early 2002 - Austin Texas USA
This trellis arbor was made to support long-handled dipper, kettle and nipple gourds, and other vines, which will also provide shade in the midday summer heat.
The overhang provided free movement in an adjacent outdoor workplace.
Angled bracework and curved and twined culm tops provide strength and stability to the structure.
It's all secured with waxed nylon thread.
6M / 20ft long X 2.1M / 7 ft wide X 4M / 13 ft high structure.
The four main support legs are spaced at 3M / 10ft length X 60cm / 2ft wide.
The uprights were set right into the ground, as it was only intended as a temporary structure, but after the second year, two heavy duty metal stakes were pounded into the ground and wired to the uprights to extend it's longevity.
