White dust?
Hello. I purchased some new bamboo furniture that I placed in storage. I am now noticing little piles of white powder all over, but I have not noticed holes. Can you tell me what it could be from and what to do about it?

How long have you had the furniture in storage?
Any way that you could take it back to the place you purchased it from and request an exchange? (or a refund) ? It has some kind of beetle in side it - the real mystery is where in the world do these bugs come from and how do they get into the bamboo?????? You might try the mothball and vinegar treatment discussed here: http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1534

Thanks for your reply Carole. It's been in storage 3 or 4 months.
Do you know if they will totally ruin or eat up the bamboo? Or weaken it to where it will not support weight? I'll go look at the vinegar link you posted. Return is an option. Pierre ><> |

I'd go for the return option.
The situation is not likely to improve. Your supplier needs to know that his merchandise is problematic. A lot is based on the proper harvesting of the bamboo - age of the culm is very important. In your case - the supplier is not the harvester or the manufacturer - so it is not really his fault - he is at the mercy of his suppliers.
