This` XXT 'Fence is made from the tops of Phyllostachys aurea poles.
(The very very top 18" or so is actually cut off and used for another project)
This a great way to make use of these parts of the bamboo.
One method that helps in the construction process, is to pre-gather the pieces and arrange them in their prospective gradient sizes.
This helps a lot in coming up with a design.

As shown in http://www.bamboocraft.net/gallery/data/524/thumbs/1XXTopsFence-044.JPG this Photo (http://www.bamboocraft.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=48), smaller diameter tops from proportionally smaller diameter bamboo poles were used in the design at the tapered end of the fence.

On the other side of the fence is the holding area of our garden/nursery, where we have clumps of pre-dug bamboo that are `heeled in' for later sales.
You can see a few bamboo behind the fence.
This is what was left over, after the winter/spring sales, and with some space free of bamboo plants, this was an opportunity to put up a makeshift fence.
We planted a flower/vegetable bed on the outside of the nursery holding area.
This area was a lawn a year ago. We only have a small amount of cultivatable garden area, so we're converting most of our grassy lawn into garden beds.

PS ... We no longer have a nursery.
