I haven't been able to be outside playing around as much as I'd like. My activity has moved inside.
Found some top of pole pieces, trimmed branches from some and baked them in the oven. 250 degrees for a couple of hours. The finish is beautiful !
I've gotten my hands on a bench band saw and have been slicing up these baked goods while imagining ways I might put them back together.

At this time of year...decorate your home and garden with
bamboo bells, baubles and bangles, bamboo wreaths and festive ornaments.

I've never tried leaving bamboo in the oven for that long (yet).
For me it might be for 15 minutes...even down to 5 10 minutes for an open 'split piece.

It would be interesting to learn more how length of time baked, and temp affect the property of bamboo.

There are many variables...for example another method I use is ...putting the pieces in a hot oven that is turned off, (usually after cooking dinner), and leaving the bamboo pieces ( usually 1/2" t0 2" dia & up to 18" long) in there overnight.
This only partially dries them, and I might repeat this procedure two or three times, or maybe just let the pieces finish air drying naturally.
Heat has been used on bamboo for eons, from the time it was discovered that flame tempered bamboo could improve the quality, and preserve and increase the longevity of a bamboo tool or implement.
However there isn't very much documentation on this subject, so any info we can collectively piece together will be a great help to us all!

Mark, I know moisture is going to be a factor in the oven drying and length of time but have you tried any shorter pieces in the Micro wave which cooks from the inside out? I would try it today, except my micro wave is broke. ha ha--Magic--------------------------------PS your wife is going to love this one!
