News from Gerald Morris, Louisiana Gulf Coast Chapter (LGCC)
The First Annual Bamboo Gardens Grove Cleanup & Celebration will be held at Bamboo Gardens of Louisiana, (Marler Spence’s place) on Hwy 440 near Franklinton, LA. This is scheduled for Saturday, October 2, 2004 and starts at 9:00 am. This is to be a work day, plant digging day, talking about bamboo day, general all out fun and learn-something-about-bamboo day.

2004 (LGCC) Members get a free plant plus an opportunity to buy others at discount. Marler has lots of mature groves and a wide variety of species. He has something of the order of 150 species. Also you will get a chance to see how the famous Bicolor Moso that sold at auction for over $3,000 at the Portland ABS meeting of 2001 is doing! I don’t know what Marler plans to charge per look, but it should be worth it! No, that one is definitely not on the “dig list”.

I plan to demonstrate taking a fresh cut P. aurea culm and curing it using a propane torch. At no time during this process will my hands leave my arms, but they may get a little cooked along with the bamboo. I hope to go from fresh green cane to finished product in 3-4 easy steps.

Remember to bring tools and gloves as per the suggestions in the last Delta Bamboo along with food for your own lunch and drink. Dress for work! No ties or formals permitted! Look forward to a fun day!**

Marler has contributed so much to the LGCC over many years. For once we hope to return the favor. Plan to join us for a fun, learning work day. Regards, Gerald Morris
Here is the schedule of the days events:
- gather at 9 am
- review ground rules and divide into teams
