Hi Lydia,
Very interesting request. Sounds like a fun challange!
Have you worked with bamboo or have basic tools?
How much time till the party?

I will think about it for a day

Hi Lydia,
"Can You Use A Wood Burner On Bamboo?"

Yes. There's different ways to burn designs on bamboo, from using red hot knives, pokers, gas torches and wood burning tools...

Here's a few pics of Some of my bamboo pyrography (http://www.bamboocraft.net/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=3022)
I will post more pics soon...

Here's a few ideas for bamboo party favors...

- bamboo cups and vases, for holding pencils, flowers or other trinkets.
- bamboo whistles, and simple flutes and panpipes
- bamboo rhythm sticks and scrapers (grooves on one side of the bamboo for playing music)
- bamboo beads, bracelets and necklaces. Some bamboos have side branches which have small holes suitable for making beads
- bamboo batons for twirlling. Can have tassels tied at the ends
- Skipping ropes with bamboo handles
- bamboo tubes for blowing soap bubbles

I'm sure there are many more ideas, but a lot has to do with having some knowledge of working with bamboo.
For example a musical instrument maker can make many types of simple instruments because they already know something about making musical instruments.

If you and your husband are just beginning to work with bamboo, go ahead and experiment!
The first step is to learn how to cut the bamboo and make edges smooth so no one gets cut from sharp edges or splinters.

Let us know if you have any questions or get any more ideas.

Have fun!

Another neat party favor..
You can buy inexpensive ball-point pens and put the whole pen, or the inside part of the pen in a stick of bamboo and viola! A beautiful bamboo pen!!

This would also make a fun project at a party!
There are many types and ways to make magic wands.
Of course the stick should be bamboo! It possesses natural energies.

One method is to bend some (coat hanger) type wire into the shape of a star (or other shape) and stick the two bent end parts into the end of the bamboo stick.
One could use glue (glue gun) to secure the star, or wrap the top with tape.

(Wire shapes at the end of a bamboo stick make good bubble wands too!)

Other things like beads, gem stones, crystals etc could be glued or wired onto the end, and colored tape could also be spiralled down the bamboo stick.
