Mark,
Have you ever used a fixed jigsaw on bamboo. Or is it a fret saw. The bench top ones with a thin blade which moves up and down very quickly. You have to drill a small hole and thread the blade through first. I think it was the "tico-tico" jao was refering to. He cut through one wall at a time, I think. I was wondering how it would handle the two walls at once? it's the sort of thing I idly wonder about, but I don't know anyone with one to try it out, and it would be an expensive experiment if it doesn't

In the USA they're called Scroll Saws.
I use one for doing fine miniature work..(bamboo jewelry etc)
and a few other applications..
I'll put some pictures together that will illustrate what this tool can do...I'll need some time to think about...

Overall I would say that this tool has enabled me to work with bamboo in special ways that no other tool could, and is a mainstay in my workshop.

Some notes...

It's uses are very specific..more on this later

Generally has a 2 inch thickness limit, with a standard throat depth of 16 inches.

It requires special (learned) skills working with materials that are in the round.

The right tool - design & construction of the scroll saw REALLY can make a difference in performance and capability
