A little less than a month ago I planted some ALTA, 'Bory' aka 'leopard', and some MOSO. Most of which was 1st year growth from a friends established garden, aside from some losing there tops cause of wind. They seem to have taken. Now after a lot of water I all ready have over 20 new shoots from different locations. In some cases i have 1 - 3 feet of growth. On thing that is nice I get a good deal off sun so the bamboo is doing/looks better then where I transplanted it from. One more thing, I just got done installing a drip irrigation system last night so it should make it easer on me, and be better for the bamboo.

That’s all for now…

Hi formanbob, Thanks for sharing your pics
Looks like you plan to live in a bamboo forest!
Yep, diversity is the way to go - Plant different species and let them decide where to roam!

I did this around my home in Pennsylvania some years back. What a jungle it became! Loved it!
The only problem I had was the bamboo bending over in heavy rain and especially snow, but I had plenty of bamboo stakes to prop them up or to make fence trellis enclosures to hold them back or keep them out of pathways.

Hey thanks for writing mark, My one day goal is to have enough to harvest to do some wood working, One nice thing is the is a huge “100ftx ¾ mile” strip of land between my backyard and the backyard behind me. So yes I hope to have a nice jungle.

From the tune of `Home, Home on the Range'...
Oh give me a home where my bamboo can roam,
where rhizomes can grow and shoots sway...

I always thought an acre of land would be enough till I got into bamboo.

But I am happy if other people grow it on their acreage and let me harvest some!

If you want big diameter poles, you'll probably need to look southward for sources.
There's a bamboo get together, grove maintenance/ harvest in Louisiana each year in Feb if you need a break from the snow and want to came back with some bigger diameter poles. Grove grooming Avery Island LA (http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=366)

Is there much bamboo growing around your part of the world (yet)?
