2004 Natural Building Colloquim-East
For Architects, Designers, Contractors, Code Officials, Owner-Builders, Educators & those interested in supporting sustainable building practices.
Saturday, 26 June - Saturday, 3 July 2004
Hosted by The PeaceWeaver Community
Thunder Mountain, Bath, NY
Colloquium: n. pl. col·lo·qui·ums or col·lo·qui·a
An informal academic meeting or seminar for the exchange of views on a broad field of study, usually led by a different lecturer, and on a different topic, at each meeting.

The 2004 Natural Building Colloquim-East (2004 NBC-E) is a week-long natural building and sustainable living project. Innovators in the fields of natural building, sustainable energy systems and permaculture will lead hands-on workshops, demonstrations and presentations throughout the week. The Host Community, The PeaceWeavers are an intentional community residing on Thunder Mountain, a 250 acre wildlife sanctuary in the Finger lakes region of upstate New York.

The foremost designers, builders, educators, and innovators in the fields of natural building and sustainable living are gathering from across the country for a collaborative effort of hands on teaching and exchange of information. The aim of the week long 2004 NBC-E is to bring everyone interested in learning about natural building technologies and sustainable systems together to learn, teach and network while creating beautiful natural structures for community use. This years' event follows the overwhelmingly successful 1998 NBC-E in Davidsonville, Maryland and the numerous west coast colloquia organized in states like New Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon and Colorado. Based on attendance at these events, we expect the 2004 NBC-E to be a sell out.

During this colloquium we will build, in a variety of workshops, a community ceremonial building, a retreat cabin, a guest cabin, a sauna and a bread oven using a variety of natural materials and building technologies. In addition to the building workshops, several permaculture and renewable energy projects will be under way for participants to take part in. A Renewable Energy + Sustainable Technology Exposition is planned during the Colloquium week to showcase cutting edge energy technologies and healthful building materials.

This years' event will be an extraordinary opportunity to support the natural building and sustainable living efforts on the east coast while building in community. For more details click here (http://www.gaiatecture.com/workshops/nbce04.html)
