Bamboo Velum (inner culm wall tissue)
It is very possible that it was because of bamboo velum that the Chinese
discovered the art of paper making, (more then a thousand years before any one else).
Bamboo slats were already being used to write on, and someone making the
slats would have seen the tissue and thought...hmmm, if this had more fibers
in it, it could be paper!
Lantern makers eventually figured out how to make strong paper with the translucent qualities of bamboo velum.
