Greetings Bamboophiles,

The 2004 Natural Building Colloquium - East is taking place in Bath, New York from June 26 through July 3 (see link above for more information). We are presenting a week of hands-on demonstration projects, led by a wide variety of pioneers in the natural building movement, using such natural building methods as straw-bale, earth plasters, cob (clay, sand and straw), cordwood masonry, and round timber framing. We are also trying to incorporate a bamboo construction project to demonstrate the wonders of this versatile building material.

We are seeking someone with experience building bamboo structures to lead a bamboo pavilion project. The pavilion will be small, used for sheltering an earthen bread oven (another planned Colloquium project) from the rains and snows of the northeast. The demonstration will take place over one or two 3-hour group building sessions, but interns will be on-site 3 weeks prior and 2 weeks after to do prep and finish work on all projects.

Participation as a Colloquium presenter gets you free access to the entire weeklong event (normally $625). A small stipend (yet to be determined) to defray travel costs will be available. This is a great opportunity to promote bamboo construction to newcomers, network with other leaders in the natural building community, and get hands-on experience with natural building methods with which you might not be familiar.

Please check out the link above for more information about the Colloquium, and either use the contact information there or contact me through this forum if you are interested or would like to learn more.

Thank you,
Jason Perry
