I am looking for information on how to prepare a bamboo cane for making a rainmaker instrument. I have searched over and over for instruction on how to do this. The bamboo is a large variety and I am not sure of its name or origin. The sections between the cane can be 12-15 inches in length.
Currently I have several sections 36 or more inches in length and the cane is still green. I would also like to know how to stop up the ends when the contents are put inside and how to remove the ribs between sections as well as how to preserve the wood.
Thanks,
Mcannon

Hi! Do you mean like in this thread about...
Bamboo Rainsticks (http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/showthread.php?t=454)?

With large dia boo you could cap the end using a thin piece of wood and glue it on...you could also pre-drill some holes at the edge and tap in some bamboo `nails' coated with glue...
or you could use a `hide' for the ends, real or synthetic and there's a variety of ways to attach it.
The stops or nodal diaphragms can be knocked out using a metal rebar or pipe, and if necessary the edges can also be filed smoother with a curved rasp.
See also this thread Nodes, diaphragms and other stuff (http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/showthread.php?p=328)
Preserving can be accomplished by slow air drying and also by heat tempering
when green...Here's a thread about..Heat Curing / Tempering Bamboo (http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/showthread.php?t=338)
There's really many ways for all of the above. Experiement and let us know how it goes!
