Hi there, just found your interesting group and joined in.
We, Johannes and krishan are writing from sri lanka, where there is plenty of bamboo of clumping types and our strong longing to build various smallscale housetype structures.
Our biggest problem at the moment is the high and dense humidity, uncountable types of insects, fungus etc., so conserving and curing seems to be inevitable.
There is no culture here for bamboo usage in buildings except split bamboo in mudhouse walls with very short lifetime as well as scaffolding.
We aquired simon Velez book "grow your own house" at the
EXPO in germany last year and saw the ZERI pavillon there.
It mentions also a smoke impregnation oven but does not give any specific hints for the necessesary parameters.
Can anyone give us hints to the above mentioned or any other time-tested methods of curing and conserving that wonderful material?
The "book of bamboo" was so far not available to us here.
Hope to get some information very soon...
