One of the special attributes of utilizing bamboo for the garden is it's natural biodegradability, and it's ability to annually regenerate new culms.
In a `wild' grove setting of woody bamboo, the life cycle of a culm from shoot emergence till it returns to the earth as humus, can easily take 25 to 50 years, even longer if the humidity level isn't continually high, especially if the culms remains in an upright position.
Bamboo is an excellent `spokesplant' for recycling!
Bamboo has perfected the art of recycling to such a fine degree, that we can learn many things from it's natural ways.
Through species selection, harvesting, drying and storing procedures, all which affect the rate of degradation, we can extend the `life' of a culm far beyond it's natural cycle.
For grove maintaineers, a familiar voice is heard singing from the choir of mature culms at harvest time ...
"I AM READY "!!!
Remove me - Re-use me !!!
Refresh my looks , improve my appearance
Bring in light and air , make some clearance.
Re-align my culm configurations
Make space for shoots of future generations.
Return my aged remanants back to me
And I will serve your needs with abundance ...and glee !!!
