Branches are perfect parts of the bamboo plant for making bamboo beads.
The colors, textures, thickness and length of cut often vary, adding interest to the design of the piece.
A Dremel (small rotary hand tool) is an excellent tool to use for cutting and sanding bamboo beads. A drill press or base to hold the dremel in place is VERY helpful and gives one the freedom of using two hands to hold the bamboo and makes the process less strenuous.
The fiberglass cutting wheel is a good attachment to use for cutting, but the diamond wheel cutter is superior. A small drum shaped sander can be attached to the rotary tool, to sand the edges of the beads.
For larger diameter beads, the bandsaw and belt sander are recommended, as the small rotary is too small to cut through thicker bamboo.
Dust protection (dust mask and eye protection) is essential with any cutting and sanding bamboo project.
