I bought a load of 8cm diameter Phyllostachys viridis the other day. One was unusally heavy. Once in the workshop I realised it had water in it. I've had this before with P. aurea. Anyway, I drilled holes in each internode and let it out. There was water in every one. I collected it.
10 liters out of that one culm!! The culm had a sweet mature fruit smell and the water tasted very slightly sweet, but of nothing else. What was it doing in there?
