My moso bamboo planted last summer has made shoots in April and starting up again this week. I was surprised that this time they came up a different color.
In the first shooting, the shoots all came up a very light color, almost a light green with leaflets on top and growing slowly.
This time the 4 shoots I've noticed so far that are coming up relatively in the same spot are the same size, but they are darker with a crimson color and a white base.
My assumption is that these new shoots look different because the weather has changed in the last 3 months so warmer and sunnier makes a difference. Hopefully these will at least grow taller than the original ones so the plant doesn't just get bushier.
