This represents an application of joinery which leaves a section of the branch on the culm, and of fitting the branch into an internode.

Each piece was glued into the next piece, and then wrapped with embroidery thread for extra effect.
The sculpture is made from Phyllostachys sp.
These connections are very strong and would be very difficult to make if the bamboo branch was not part of it.
This is another benefit of growing your own bamboo, or having access to a grove, because all bamboo that is sold comercially has had the branches removed.

Utilizing the natural culm/branch connection makes these lightweight objects quite strong.
