I planted over 100 bamboo rootballs (crooked stem, golden) along the top of an 8' berm for privicy 2 years ago. It spans 350' in length. It is doing wonderful. Hear are my questions: since I want the newest, tallest bamboo on top of the berm and of course it is running down each side continously, will thinning out the original , smaller stalks on top encourage new larger culms to start sprouting on the top? Also will thinning some of the small diameter stuff allow more energy for bigger new growth or will it cause smaller growth because of less energy comming in? now that this grove is established(thickness and heath) I want the height even if it means thinning it out.
