Hi All,

I'm new to the forum but a bit seasoned with bamboo. I've made more things than I can remember, but now need to narrow the focus down a bit.

I can't really settle down on one item that I can make and sell to keep the lights on. I've been sick for sometime and money has gotten too tight.

So I'm not trying to get rich just pay the bills by figuring out one bamboo item I can make in quantity and sell like candy.

Most of the bamboo I have access to is up to 2". I do have some larger and am getting several loads of all sizes soon. I've got a barn sized shop and fairly good tools.

Any ideas on how I can turn the hobby into something somewhat profitable would be appreciated.

Best Wishes,
Jason

Given the same grove you had I would consider making furniture considering you have 2 inch size culms, chairs, tables, shelves to store stuff, or flatten out the bamboo to for more durable stuff. Poles will sell too, baskets, bamboo thread is possible. You could also pot up divisions and sell them.

Thanks Steve,

I'd thought about furniture before and after reading your reply gave it another day of mulling. I just think time for money doesn't work out. I'd have to turn them out assembly style, like make 40 legs, then make 40 seats and such. My issue is I would still have to compete with the imports because it's a common item.

Sometime ago, we bought some very nice bamboo folding chairs, but frankly they just hurt my butt.

I've been thinking something that fills a niche, I could make at least a dozen a day and would sell for around $10 and up might be the ticket. I'd guess it would have to be something a bit unique to guarantee price and an easy market.

Still stumped so all suggestions welcomed.
