I've never had much luck with plants, and apparently this applies to bamboo as well. I had an unplanned absence from my plant for about 10 days a few weeks ago and I came back to find it had no water and the leaves were yellowing. I was given it as a gift about nine months ago. I've kept it in a vase with distilled water and given it very little to no sunlight, as per the directions of the giver. I'm not sure what to do, the yellow is slowly making its way down the stalk, which as gotten soft at the top as well. It doesn't seem to be suffering from any kind of insect, but how can you tell? The information online seems so contradictory; mist the leaves, don't mist the leaves; cut the yellow part off, don't cut the yellow part off; go plant it outside, etc. So, I guess I'm kind of looking for some concensus?

Poor quality is due to my poor webcam. Yes, I am aware of the irony of the first picture.

Hello,
Your post was moved to the "Lucky Bamboo Forum".

Your plant is not a true bamboo - but is commonly called "Lucky Bamboo" which is Dracaena sanderiana.

You could try cutting of the yellow part of the stalk to try to save it.
