How long to soak bamboo?

Hi:

I'm new to working bamboo and would like to try my hand at bending it. How long do I have to soak it in water in order for it to be pliable enough to bend?

I'd rather start with this method, and try heat bending later. Thanks.

Can you describe the kind of piece of bamboo that you are wishing to bend?

Just a piece less than a half inch in diameter...but I was wondering about guidelines for other sizes of bamboo, as well. Thanks for responding.

If your piece is dry - I suggest using heat instead of soaking it.

That is the only way I know of to bend a dry piece.
