hello all

I'm looking into building a bicycle out of bamboo as many before me have. I have no experience with bamboo and the more I look into it the more i come to understnd that it is a wonderful material. I would very much appreciate it if someone with experience could guide me as to what type of bamboo i should use for a high performance mountain bike (much like the one craig calfee built).
It has to be very strong and with a diameter of between 20 to 45 milimeters (3/4 - 1 3/4 of an inch).
Also, I gathered so far that i should heat treat it so information regarding how to accomplish this would be much appreciated.
Last but not least, where do I buy this bamboo?
Thank you very much for your time.

Wow, this is an ambitious idea! :-)

My interest in cycling has me intrigued....perhaps there are ways we could be of some help in offering advice on how to integrate various materials in with the bamboo? We would definitely be very interested in hearing how this project comes along! :-)

Hey you can find a lot of advice and step by step instructions on http://mmann1123.blogspot.com/. I have posted info in regards to your questions: how to choose species, how to build a jig, how to miter, how to properly use epoxy etc etc. I hope that it helps with your project.
