Hi everyone, Im glad I found this forum!

Is it a no-no to build structures with bamboo logs in internal tension? For example to mount a bamboo log in a position where it is slightly bent, but not heat treating it, just letting it sit there with internal tension.

Will this positively lead to cracking, or is it no problem?

How thick is the pole that you are using?
Is it green or dry?

Hi Carole,

The bamboo is green and 10 cm in diameter, 6 meter long.

Hi Carole,

The bamboo is green and 10 cm in diameter, 6 meter long.

That is a thick "bamboo log" 10 cm (4 inches) and it should be very strong.

How much pressure are you planning to put on it?

I don't think that heat treating it would add any physical strength to the bamboo.
