Hope someone will help me out here..
I got myself a 5' bamboo with culms of 13mm thick.
Is there such a process of soaking the bamboo for a few weeks before putting it for drying under the sun?
What is the common process for drying bamboo?
Thank alot!!

fischer..

Hello fisheR,
Since you are in Malaysia I would assume that you have a tropical bamboo.

Is it very green?
Has it just been harvested?
Is it a "young cane" or was it "mature" at harvesting?

These are all factors that will effect the drying time of the bamboo culm.

Drying in the shade is preferred.

re soaking solutions - I don't have any practical experience in that area.

Perhaps someone else could address the soaking issue.

Hey Carole.. Thanks for the reply..

The bamboo is quite matured when harvested (although it's green)

Natural drying would take a longer time i guess..
I was thinking of slowly flame dry the bamboo. Is that recommended?

Thanks.

Yes, flame drying is recommended.

What are your plans for the bamboo pieces?

Planning to split the bamboo , plan it triangular to make bamboo fly rod..
This is an experimental project. I am not sure whether thist ype of bamboos are suitable for making bamboo rods. Normally bamboo rods are made from tonkin bamboo.

Anyway.. thank you so much for the advice.
