Hello Derick,
No, I don't know of anyone growing it here in central Texas. The winter night temperatures here often drop below freezing.
I've heard of it growing in South Florida, but haven't been there to see it myself.
I do have one sample that was sent to me from Guyana and the culm walls are certainly thick.
One of these days I'll get enough to experiment with.
Meanwhile, I'm content working with Phyllostachy species.
