The hand made wrapping paper idea made me think of kites.
Has anyone made kites using handmade (bamboo) paper ?
I've got the bamboo.
I'll have to search for some kite plans
I can imagine some interesting mould shapes that could be made with bamboo framing.
It sounds like a fun thing to do..
Now if I could just drag myself away from grove maintenance and other chores...

PS I saw mention of a paper origami paper-planes web site .. wrote it down some where...
oh well...back to the garden

Anna Rubin makes some amazing kites using bamboo framing and handmade Japanese paper (washi)

The images may take awhile to come into focus, but are worth the wait.

I have a few sheets of washi that have bamboo leaves embedded in them, but i still haven't used them for kites yet.

Very inspiring Greg. Wow!
A few years ago I got the urge to to make some bamboo paper.
... What an experience!
I've been meaning to sort through my disks and upload these pics and even started a forum here for bamboo paperaking ... but... well time goes by and stuff happens.
Making bamboo paper by hand is quite an involved process and one needs to have a culmpunction to do it. I've never really had a desire to put pen or brush to paper ... but a couple things have tickled my imagination to play around with this again - lanterns and pulp sculpting.
But with seeing these pics, your website and reading your kite making discussions, my interest has again been piqued! :)
When I get back from my travels I'll fire up the cooker again.
Thanks for reviving this thread!

Cheers,
Mark

I've taken a paper making workshop class once and agree it is a very involved proccess. I now have a greater appreciation for handmade paper and can see why some are so expensive to buy.
