A neighbor with a large amount of bamboo was clearing his lot and removing the bamboo. We attempted to transplant the bamboo. The plants laid on the ground for 4-5 hours, unprotected in the hot Florida sun. By the end of the first day the leaves had started to curl. It has now been 5 days and despite heavy watering, the leaving are very dry and show no sign of recovery. I'm wondering what steps I need to take to try to save the plants. There are two varieties - the plants are very tall. I believe one is a Greenstripe Vivax. They are a full two stories tall. I have not been able to identify the second variety. They are a bright green, about seven feet tall. I'm thinking they should be cut back heavily but I'm concerned about putting the plants in even more shock. Suggestsions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think as long as you keep it protected from the sun, keep the ground temperature moderate, and well watered, not damp, your plant has a good chance of survival.
Its easy to tell if it survives after about 3-4 weeks because new leaves will begin to form to replace the dead ones. If you have a lot more above ground growth compared to rhizomes, you might want to trim it back. Bamboos are usually really tough considering that bare rhizomes can survive.

My Vivax which was a fully rooted 1 gallon pot had leaves that curled up, turn yellow and fall off back in June so it should be normal to see a loss in foliage, but it eventually sprouted new growth. In about 7 weeks a new shoot came. I actually used tree branches with lots of leaves to shade it from mid day sun. I watered it every other day for the first month, and put down wood mulch.

My plant 4 months later, today is thriving.
