I'm very interested in your house, if you have time pls post some pictures and other info.

Regarding the mold, has the bamboo been treated with preservatives? Has it been varnished or otherwise painted?

Moisture would be causing the mold. You should make sure the bamboo never gets wet, besides helping the mold, moisture will lessen the life of your bamboo. If it isn't getting wet, high humidity may be the problem. Try ventilating the area somehow.

Shortly I shall be getting a book on bamboo preservation techniques. If there is any suitable information I shall post.

As a wood preservative with the characteristic of retarding fungus, mildew, insect infestation, one can use this stuff. It is toxic to all life, so be careful not to ingest it. One gallon of antifreeze is the base. Ad to it 4-1/2 pounds of borax, three and one-half pounds of boric acid. Mix these well and heat to the boiling point. This is about 240 degrees. Then turn off the heat allow to cool and put into a child proof container. The solution can be diluted 2:1 with water when using with wood 2" or less in thickness. The bamboo can be soaked in this for a few minutes and then allowed to dry for two days. Then the bamboo needs to be coated with a water proof sealant like varnish. I do not think you would have any further problems if these steps are followed.
