I just ordered the bamboo and put it in the ground right away when I received the bamboo, but also it took a good week and a half to get the bamboo at my place. After a couple of days the bamboo plant is already dying. I was hoping somebody could tell me so I could fix the problem.
Look at the pics and tell me what you think

My P vivax bamboo did the same thing back in June when I put it in. I was getting a little worried, but after about a month it started growing new leaves and putting up another shoot.
As long as you water it enough and give it partial shade, it should make it. You should have enough time for it to get established, but you can find out once spring comes around.
I'm planning on mulching mine with leaves to help it get through winter.

I'm guessing its probably the shock from transplanting it, or too much sunlight. Hopefully they start making new leaves in the next couple months.

Really? I put the bamboo where it gets partial shade. The only time the bamboo gets sun is in the middle of the day because I planted the bamboo in the middle of two trees. Thanks for your advice this will surely help me.

Hello soccerdude, from the first photo it still looks like you have some green to it. That's postive it can definately be saved. Just make sure it dosen't get bone dry. You might even try misting the foliage to save some of the height. If all else fails, you may have to trim the culm top off. I seriously doubt it though. Bamboo is a pretty forgiving plant. What kind of boo is it? Did you buy it and if so what was your expeience with the vendor?
I have bought bamboo online before all with good results except one.

The bamboo I bought was called incense bamboo, but I don't know the specific name.

I do not think that is due to a lack of water or too much sun! Because in that case bamboo leaves are rolled like that:

And your bamboo is not like that
Maybe to much fertilizer ?????

sometimes when you order a bamboo plant it is not fully established and it is better to keep it in a pot until it outgrows or fills up the pot.
I lost my square bamboo after climbing down the hill all summer to bring it water - it was a young start that I had dug up in February that I put right into the ground. Maybe it was also because the dirt around the plant was like a hard rock and I put mulch on top of it. It was looking good up until a month ago.

It could possible be to much fertilzer because I wanted to be in good soil. So before I planted the bamboo I would put a layer of dirt then some horse manure a layer of a dirt then some horse manure and so forth. Before I planted the bamboo the roots were growing out of the bottom of the pot.

Did your bamboo recover? I used about 50 pounds of dehydrated manure, lots of grass clippings, and mulch on top and a thorough watering to get my bamboos started, but they also started out by losing leaves too.

The main cane is dead, but I have two really small canes that have healthy green leaves.

As long as the plant is producing rhizomes in the fall, you should be getting new shoots next year which you should already have if you have green leaves. They will probably be smaller than the original culm because it died.
