Hello everyone,
For my seedlings I used the paper towel method. I think it is one of the simplest method to start your seedlings with great success! First you have to get a paper towel and soak it with water. Slighty twist the paper towel to get rid of the excess water. If your paper towel is dripping you should squeeze some more water out of the paper towel. Depending on how many seeds you have depends on how many times you fold your paper towel. It really doesn't matter how you fold it or how many times you fold the paper towel. More folds equals less area to put you seeds thats all there is to it. Then put your seeds under one layer of paper towel. After that put the paper towel in a enclosed bag or just fold the end under. Then after all that is done put by a window with some sunshine and wait for the seeds to grow.

I waited every 3 days to checking the seeds. Once the seed starts to grow roots they are ready to be transplanted to dirt. I would recommend transplanting them right away. The paper towel method is just supposed to germinate the seeds not grow in the paper towl.

First picture is showing what I mean by putting the seeds under one layer of paper towel. Sorry for the paper towel being dirty, but thats from the molds and my dirty hands touching it after transplanting my seeds from the paper towel to dirt. The seeds you see will be thrown out because they never germinate.

Second Picture is 3 days after first shooting up from the ground.

Third Picture is 5 days after first shooting up from the ground

Fourth Picture is 8 days after first shooting up from the ground

Fifth Picture is the same seedling just on September 7th

Sixth Picture is the same seedling just on September 14th

Seventh Picture is the same seedling just on Sept 20th

I had great success with 24 out of 30 seeds rooting in the paper towel and some starting to shoot from the dirt already.

Wait a second. I just noticed that the leaf on your tallest seedling seems to be a lot wider than the leaves my seedlings have. Uh oh...do you think mine might not be Moso?

How long did it take for the moso seeds to germinate in the paper towel?

I'm actually doing it myself.

I didn't count how many days the seed took to germinate, but it was around a week for the first ones then kept germinating up to like 2 weeks and half. If they don't germinate within a month I am pretty sure that they are no good.

I have been busy all week. First of all I have school and after school I have soccer practice every day of the week except sunday. I have games on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. If the game is away I usually don't get home until 10 o'clock or 9 o'clock.

I will try to get updated pictures on my seedlings.

What would I be doing for the seedling to turn yellowish or getting brown on the leaves? Also I had some other seedlings that part of the leaf was eaten. What would be doing that?

Hi soccerdude. I wouldn't worry too much about the lowest leaf turning brown. The thing that I would focus on is whatever took a bite out of your leaf! Lol. I'm sorry I have no idea what might have caused it. Do you have any pets?

Yes I have pets, but the plant was in the middle, maybe at the edge, but the plant was in the middle.

I am sad to say that my moso seedlings died.:(. I think it's because of the winter coming not to long after they germinated because i started them in fall. Plus i think my water killed it because nothing lives to long on the water from our house.

I hope I gave you guys a good way to germinate bamboo seedlings.

Good luck to everyone with growing bamboo seeds!

No!! One of our growing-Moso-from-seed brethren has fallen!

I hope you'll consider starting again someday!
And thanks for the good luck!
