thats pretty cool. did you do the whole thing freehand with the jigsaw or'd you make some kind of jig/guide to keep it uniform?

Yeah it's all freehand. Sure a jig could make it more exacting, but it would take all the fun out of it.
Actually I do it at ground level, and my foot and hand are the jig...sure would make it easier if I had someone else help turn it as I cut it...but then... the experience wouldn't be the same...there's something about having to focus the use of your whole body to get down into the nitty gritty of working with bamboo...
On the other hand, if this was a product line in development, I'd be looking for easier ways.
