Below is a basic design for a house I would like to build from bamboo.

I would really appreciate feedback from people, especially if they can point out any faults with the design. The species we will use is D. Asper with a 4" diameter, this is very common in central Thailand where I live.

The only walls are on the bedrooms and living room. The plan is very open, to allow ventilation as it's hot almost all year round.

The plan shows the basic frame design. Does this look strong enough? The roof shall be either iron sheets or thatching.

From the top view you can see the support columns, these will comprise 4 poles with gaps between them for other poles to fit through. Motar filled joints with bolts shall be used. There's only a few measurements provided, they are all in meters (1m = 3.28ft)

The 'outdoor area' at the front overlooks a large pond with mountains in the distance, this is where we will spend the most time. We will probably have a skilion roof on the back and front, although we may continue with the same frame design all the way thru.

Hi Scott,

I'm also in Thailand (near Kolat) and have been thinking about building a bamboo house here also. I was searching the net for info and came across your posting here. I'm curious to know how you're getting on, have you started building yet?

I haven't started building, it's early planning stages now. Still looking for some feedback on my plans, as I don't want it falling down around me.
