I want to build a 6' x 6' x7' high wedding canopy to be used indoors. I think I want to use 2" bamboo poles. I may also want to paint them white. From what I have read on the internet, I believe I want Tonkin. Is this correct?

It will need to be assembled quickly and disassembled quickly as well. Any suggestions for joints?

Does anyone know of a bamboo supplier in the Chicago area? (I appologize, I asked this supplier question a minute ago in a post in the sources forum.)

Thanks,
Suff

A quick way to do the joints for a wedding canopy is to tie them - tying the horizontal pole just above a node in the horizontal pole, so that the horizontal pole would 'rest' on the vertical pole.

I just did a simular project for an Indian theme piece.

I used the thickest pieces I could find for the verticles. I dug 8 inch holes for to mount in the posts. I then used a hole saw to cut holes thru the top pieces of the bamboo for the verticle pieces which were thinner. I then used twine to hold the structure together. I then pounded in rocks in the holes to solidified the structure.

It held together pretty good. Just have to be careful with folks leaning on the structure since I didn't have any cross bracing.

best of luck!
