Episode #2708 of PBS's "This Old House" involved a countertop made of multiple blocks of carbonized bamboo, glued together into a large blank - then machined by various means.
The top/work surface of the countertop featured the end grain of many blocks arranged in a haphazard grid. My recollection is that each block was a 4" cube, more or less...
My intent is to glue up similar mass, and then carve/sculpt it by traditional and motorized wood carving means. I would very much enjoy growing my own quickly renewable source of raw material, but I need to educate myself as to what's involved in combining small bamboo bits into larger components.
I tried to search for information here, but came up empty-handed.
Thanks,
Tom
