Folks, at long last I have some pics of new culms of the phyllostachys variant I dont have a name for. These are in Turtle Creek, Pa, a suburb of Pittsburgh. May showers are finally bringing up the first shoots of this 'boo - my p. vivax has yet to have anything break through yet, but I anticipate oodles of growth.

When I visited Clint & family in Leechburg, PA, his ability to use macro on his digital cam intrigued me...and lo & behold, my SD1000 has a macro feature. If these are too fuzzy, or you need different pics/angles for better chance at ID, lemme know.

Separately, I have several p. vivax pics to post, where I expect to see shoots.

Off the cuff, and judging from the striped shoots and the somewhat bent culms in the photos, I would guess that you have one of the Phyllostachys aureosulcatas there. A test for that is to run your hand along the mature culms, and if has a light sandpaper feel to it, usually in one direction more than the other, it is an aureosulcata. If not, then it is more likely something else.
