Hi,

I have dense, acidic clay in southeast virginia amongst 50-60 feet Loblolly pine trees. I need a noise and sight barrier at the front of my property that can fill in a sizable area. I'd like to plant it so that there is a line running along the border of the road and allow it to fill in from there. I don't want it to encroach on my septic field which is 60 feet from this area. What type of bamboo can I plant that would be compatible with these conditions?

I've read the posts about containing the runners with a variety of interesting methods but, I'm a medical student and for the next three years I will have very limited free time to get out and dig trenches or install used conveyer belts (brilliant though!!!) to contain the bamboo.

I'd hate to go the boring and unattractive route of putting in a line of leyland cypresses or thuja giants. Not to mention those all seem highly prone to disease and wind damage after a few years!

Thanks!
