I made a bamboo yidaki (didgeridoo) a long time ago that eventually split, but I really liked it. I'm going to make another and a fujara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujara) as well which is a bass overtone flute. Anywho, when I made my yidaki, I used a torch and a metal pipe to burn out the nodes inside to make it hollow. It worked well, but the problem was that it smelled whenever I played it.

How do I clear out the dividers at the nodes so that I can build my flutes?

Note that these are BIG for flutes, 5'+ long and about 2" in diameter.

Thanks,
Bred

Hi Bred,
You can use a rebar or other pipe to knock out the nodes and then attach some sand paper on to something to sand the edges on the inside of the bamboo.
