I have a new house with a built in closet of bamboo. It smells like a wine cave. Fermented as in rotten food. Can it be from the Bamboo?

Why don't you check with the builder?
It sounds like there is a problem somewhere....

The contractor says it needs to be aired out. That is ridiculous. When we open the closet the smell starts to permeate the bedroom and hall.I called the carpenter and he said the bamboo came from (editor's note: company name removed) - the most reputable group in the US High End I have their material in my kitchen which was done by a famous designer. No problem! Help.

very much possible. But sometimes it can be the glue(water based) causing the 'fermented smell'

Thanks. that is what the contractor is saying. We put a heater in closet and a fan at the same time to blow the air out. Seems to be slowly working.

Yes it could be due to fungal attack on bamboo. If the conditions are hot and humid, it will be difficult to get rid of it. Heat the closet and try to get dry condition. Then apply 2% aqueos soltion of Sodium Carbonate (Soda ash or washing soda)
