I enjoy traditional hunting very much. I need to step it up to the next level. I want to make my own bows. Does anyone know what the best type of bamboo to use is? I want to grow it, cure it, and build it myself. I would appreciate any advice I can get. Thank you very much.

The people that I have spoke to that make bamboo bows are usually looking for Phyllostachys edulis (moso) and they want either strips that are at least a inch wide and six or seven feet long, or a piece of bamboo that is at least 4 inches in diameter so they can make their own strips. One person told me he uses osage wood and likes to back the bow with bamboo.

A search for "bow" here on the site, brings up several threads about bamboo bows.
