Close up of Rhizomes (http://www.bamboocraft.net/workshop/showphoto.php?photo=420)
You can tell by the shrinkage, and still intact sheaths, that this is a young rhizome.

This is a (purchased) bamboo rhizome bracelet, or it could be used as a handle for a carrying bag, or for a hanger to hold a hanging planter... and much more.
It is probably made from the rhizome (runners) of a Phyllostachys sp.

Photo #1 - Rhizome Bracelet (http://www.bamboocraft.net/workshop/showphoto.php?photo=1036) - Outside diameter 8cm (3 1/8 inch) - commercial production / source unknown

Photo #2 (http://www.bamboocraft.net/workshop/showphoto.php?photo=1037) - Showing shallow cracks in the surface caused by bending. Some cracking may have been caused when the rhizomes were dug up.

Photo # 3 (http://www.bamboocraft.net/workshop/showphoto.php?photo=1038) - Pegged, then glued together with hot glue.
The quality of this joinery shows that this was a quickly made production item, or that the highest quality joinery technique not required.
In the case of it's use as a hand-bag carry handle, the the join may end up being wrapped with cord or covered by cloth or other material.

Photo#4 (http://www.bamboocraft.net/workshop/showphoto.php?photo=1039) - Shown here, the rhizome near the end joint got crimped, probably as a result of too much or uneven pressure applied near the end of the rhizome.

My idea was to get a double ended bin and hold it together with that and then secure it with glue. I want to make bamboo bracelets (the classic ones) and bamboo hoop earrings. Anyone know how?
