When I was a small child my father woud go out into the woods and find a cane patch. He would cut these canes, bend them into a rainbow shape and stick them in the ground on both ends. He did this on his tobacco beds to hold up the cloth cover untill the weather warmed up. When the weather warmed up he could then take the cloth cover off and remove the canes. I would use them for arrows with my homemade Bow and also for fishing canes, (small ones). When I was small child I almost cut 2 of my fingers off by trying to break one off by hand. These canes are scattered all about in our woods around here. They don't get that large, maybe 7 to 9 feet and maybe 3/8's of an inch in diameter. They grow mainly in the shade, in the woods. I live down in S.C. maybe 45 miles from the coast. Does anyone know what kind of canes this would be. I think it would be in the Bamboo family. It's the only native bamboo that I have ever found around here. Thanks, Charndannio
