View Full Version : Glyphosate stunted bamboo?

I have a 5 year old grove of black bamboo, this year's culms are about 20 mm diameter. There's a chance I may have unintentionally exposed some shoots this spring to glyphosate while spraying some poison ivy. Three or four culms are stunted (say 3 m instead of 5 m), leaves are in compact clusters and branches short. Some say the plant is more attractive this way.
Could that be a result of exposure to glyphosate?

I've seen a few instances of attempts to kill off bamboo via chemical spraying and it did not kill the bamboo but rather stunted it and produced clusters of short branches with small leaves - sound familiar?

Thanks.
I wonder if the herbicide affected only the shoots that were directly exposed, or if there was some spread through the rhizome? There are three culms in a row affected, but I don't know if I inadvertently sprayed all three.
Also wonder what spring's progeny will look like.

I may be mistaken but I think that the ones I've seen were not shoots that had been sprayed, rather what came up after an entire planting area had been sprayed, and if I am remembering correctly you may well see more disfigured culms in the future, maybe not if it was low dose.
