Hello, Can anyone tell me if its ok to transplant a Hardy Clump Bamboo "Fargesia nitida" from a pot to outside in September? I live in Massachusetts.

Hi timjot,
If the plant is healthy with well established roots, my guess is that it would be okay, providing also that the area around the rootball is well mulched.

As there isn't much time for the bamboo to establish more roots and become well anchored to the soil, some added mulch when the weather cools down can prevent frost heave.

Rhizomes and roots are generally less cold hardy then the top growth, so planting the bamboo in-ground is much better than leaving the potted plant above ground.
