I would like to make a couple of bamboo screens of splits, about 113' by 80', for the school library windows. It would be light enough to move when not needed, and they could decorate it if they wanted.

Problem is, materials must be fire resistant, if not fire proof, to be used in school. Is there any treatment for bamboo that would be certified or whatever, so I could make this work? I could make one to put outside, but it would grey and probably fall over in the wind, as well as be much less conveniently mobile.

Thanks, just getting started in this, using invasive (free) bamboo from Greensboro, NC area. There are several stands around, would it make any difference to ID the species?

a treatment in pressure chamber with Boric compound might help but i don't know whether it's a certified method.

also a conventional treatment known as Cold Immersion is as follows:

boric(1%)
borax(1.5%)
Water

Air Dried Bamboo Strip tied with Nylon String dipped in Solution for 1 day
After Immersion, Strips removed and stood on end in the shade and allowed to dry.

Maybe some of the senior members here can give their input here. I know that boric is used as a fire retardant but i am not sure of the percentage.
