hi all.... just curious about the difference between using mapp gas or propane for curing and/or creating different effects..... also pondering the notion of using a rotisserie in my gas grill to dry bamboo... any thoughts?
thanx, kel

The propane is alot cheaper. It does not burn as hot but then we are not trying to weld metal. You need a better nozzle to use the mapp gas. The propane is plenty hot to cure bamboo and it seemed to allow me better control over the results of the burning. The mapp gas because of its exteme heat often charred the bamboo when I did not want this to happen. The propane is not quite as clean burning a gas and seemed to leave an occasional smudgy result if used too far away and therefore taking to long to produce the correct curing. Also, I prefer propane because blue is my favorite color.

It would seem to me to be too slow and consequently cost too much money.
If you try it let us know how it worked.
