Native American Flute volume problems

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, although I've been using this excellent site for a while.

I have a question about native american flutes. I've been making a couple but am having great difficulty getting any real volume or tone out of the low octave. I've experimented with various things such as sound-hole size and the thickness of the bamboo, but am still having no luck. I haven't had the same problem with side-blown flutes or saxophones, so is there something I am missing with the native american flute?

I'd be very grateful for any advice.

Hi Nathan,
I won't embarrass myself by trying to answer your question about something I know little of, but in a couple of weeks I'll have an opportunity to discuss this with a native American flute maker, and I can ask this question for you.
If you can provide any more specifics, even upload pics of your flutes I can pass this info on.
Meanwhile I hope another flute maker will see this post and discuss this with you.
