Winter broke the top off some of my Narihira culms, instead
of just cutting them out I'm going to try and get some roots started at the branch nodes. If this works, I'm wondering how long I can expect to wait before root growth might occur?
Basically, all I've done is tie a cone of stretch wrap below a branch node, apply rooting hormone, pack in some dampened peat-moss and then tie up the top loosely.

Hi Glenn,
If you succeed in getting the culms of Semiarundinaria fastuosa to root I think a whole lot of folks will want to know.
Generally temperate bamboo species are considered not responsive to propagation from culm cuttings, while many semi/tropical bamboos can be propagated this way.

Here is a pic of lateral branches of Dendrocalamus latiflorus being propagated in a similar fashion

Maybe the majic ingredient needed for success is an optimistic approach. :)

I will guesstimate 2 maybe 3 months max if it was to succeed.

I'll be rootin for you!

I'll keep a close eye on this project...feel free to send over all the optimism you have to spare!
Perhaps by September the experiment will have a successful culmination.
