I've one more unknown but it has no culms up yet;
I'm taking that as a sign it is NOT another Henon!
I'll attach more photos as the culms break ground.

The thinking cogs are churning but I'll withhold commenting till the shoots rise. ;)

Hi glenn,
The peek-a-boo shoots are still a little early for an ID culmfirmation.
But they are tantalizing enough to begin with 2 possible culmdidates: ;)
(This guess is only based on the deep maroon tinge of color on the sheath margin)
Phyllostachys rubromarginata (http://www.bamboocraft.net/bamboo/showgallery.php?cat=512)
And if the sheath surface begins to show signs of light striping ...
Phyllostachys mannii 'Decora' (http://www.bamboocraft.net/bamboo/showphoto.php?photo=2547&cat=590)

Hi Mark;
I'm hoping for the 'Decora'.
My Rubromarginata has already culmed and has most of its laterals out.
I'll upload some more photos as the new shoots mature.

I think you got this one spot on, Mark.
Here are some photos of the culm yesterday, it looks
identical to the new culms of this species in a local nursery.
Phyllostachys species #7
1065 1066 1067
OTOH, this brings me back to unknown #3 (http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2574) which we ID'd as
the same creature...these plants are within ten feet of each other
and appear totally different. #3 is still putting up new culms, the weather
is hotter with a lot more sun and the newest shoot looks different than the first ones in unknown #3 thread, it shows pronounced variegation. Other differences include:
#7 has small , light-colored leaves with a matte texture while #3 has larger
leaves that are deep green with a glossy texture.
Culm numbers and growth rate are much higher in #3
overall, (as you will note in the photo) #7 is a graceful, airy sort of structure
while #3 is, well, a lump. I've been looking at nurseries and through the photo archives but have not been able to pin down #3.
help! ;-J

Hi glenn,
According to your latest pics, (using the jpg sp#filename as reference - I've arranged the pics inline in your post for you) ...
Species #7 is Phyllostachys rubromarginata
Species #3 is Phyllostachys mannii 'Decora' (link to Phyllostachys species #3 (http://www.bamboocraft.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2574) Thread)
I have some more pics of these species which I'll upload in the gallery later tonight to help clarify distinctions.
Cheers,
Mark
