Cut a small start from an abandoned grove near Sequim Bay 2 years ago, this one is just starting to take off. Also similar to the Nigra but the internode space on the new culms is a lighter green and a white powdery residue is prominent.

Hi glenn,
I hope I'm wrong in some of my guesswork, if a number of species in your collection turn out to be Phyllostachys nigra 'Henon', but check with this plant as the new culms leaf out, as to whether the sheath scar at the nodal ridge has a ring of fuzzy hairs and if the surface of the first year culms have a velvety feel to the touch.
Also check if the older culms remain green or develop any brown/black coloration.

Here's to hoping one of these turn out to be something different.
... if not, be culmsoled that it's a wonderful species to have, useful culms, good eating shoots and/or plenty of propagation material to boot ;)

Well, that's four out of my twenty-one but as you say there WILL be lots of propagation material early next spring!
